Sumer is a Ph.D. candidate in the Media and Personality Lab at the Department of Communication. Broadly, his research focuses on automatic personality prediction, personalization, and the psychological effects of new media. He is especially interested in philosophical discussions about the mind, scientific methodology and the role of ethics in society. He plans to use this fellowship to develop an ethical framework for personality prediction research that is sensitive to non-Western cultures where technology use is growing rapidly (e.g., India, Africa). Sumer holds a B.A. in Psychology, a M.A. in Social Sciences and a graduate certificate in Computational Social Sciences from the University of Chicago.
